Althea Duskchild
Althea is a wingless Dragonfly sprite girl, the same age as Asher. She has a strong healing Talent. She was captured by Bat slavers. Asher rescues her from the slave market and vows to help her reunite with her older sister. But her older sister has joined forces with Ryn, making this task more challenging than Asher anticipates.
Cassian Luthairson
Cassian is a Brown Bat greenwing (teenager). He’s Hiero’s nephew . He has a health condition similar to asthma that means he suffers from illness and breathing difficulties regularly. He’s passionate about Hiero’s mission to help make the Bat Colony a better place by assisting the Clanless in any way possible and helping smuggle slaves out of the cave to freedom. He also has a mind reading Talent, which means Siobhan has a hard time trusting him.
Killian Tierson
Killian first appeared in Wingless when he helped Asher rescue Carinen and create an antidote to the malbas poison in the Colony water system. He is a White Bat Citizen (an elite warrior) but he works in secret with Hiero to assist Hiero’s plans. He is secretly Hiero’s nephew, although this isn’t publicly known. Killian is actually an Apparent–a Bat sprite with parents of two different Clans, but who looks like a pureblooded Bat. Asher respects him and trusts him, but Siobhan has trouble trusting him because of his status as a Citizen. Killian is also longtime friends with Fallon, despite having a somewhat unconventional relationship with the grumpy Arena Champion.
Wynne Anwylsa
Wynne first appeared in Wingless. She’s a Brown Bat Apparent who runs the orphanage in the Slum. She and Ryn have been close friends since they were children, struggling to survive as orphans themselves in the Slum. She believes in Ryn’s cause, but doesn’t always approve of his methods. It is speculated among many of their followers that Ryn and Wynne are in love, but neither one feels they can risk courting until after the rebellion succeeds. She has been a mother figure to Siobhan ever since Siobhan lost her own mother as a small child.
Enya Idensa
Enya is a mysterious White Bat who is close friends with both Killian and Fallon. She takes Asher by surprise as she bears a shockingly close appearance to Asher’s mother. They later learn that she is in fact Asher’s cousin, although she never personally knew Asher’s mother.
Fallon Ardrason
Fallon is a Vampire Bat Citizen and a professional duellist who bears the title of the youngest Arena Champion in Bat history. He first made a brief appearance in Wingless, where he made a poor first impression with Asher. He has a speed Talent. He’s also the grandson of the current Bat Archon (leader of the Bat Colony), but he’s on bad terms with his grandfather. Fallon is often surly and in a bad mood, but he refuses to keep slaves on principal, and unlike most Citizens, he feels no ill-will toward the Clanless Bats. He’s been longtime friends with both Killian and Enya, and he’s surprisingly sympathetic to Killian’s secret cause of helping Hiero, although he’s never joined in on it himself.
